Get more than just good food; get good nutrition as well. You’ve heard it countless time before; Fish is the healthiest meat. Since fish is leaner and healthier, dieters prefer fish to beef as protein source. Fish meat contains high-quality protein. Fish and shellfish have about 19 percent protein that is similar in amino acid composition to that found in muscle meats. It contains a substantially lower fat content than beef.
Essential minerals and vitamins found in fish include iodine, fluoride, traces of cobalt, magnesium, phosphorus, iron, copper, calcium, zinc, vitamin D, thiamine, riboflavin and niacin. The fat in fish has high levels of polyunsaturated fatty acids, especially omega 3 fatty acids, which help to lower blood cholesterol. Omega-3 fatty acids also appear to reduce levels of plasma trigyceride, in particular very low-density lipoprotein, a type of cholesterol known as “bad” cholesterol and considered a risk factor for heart disease.
